Meet Carlton Senior Living spotlight resident, Rebecca Young – Rebecca was born on May 9, 1919, in Saskatchewan, Canada to Donald and Mary. She came from a big family of three brothers and five sisters. Even though life was hard back then, she still had a happy childhood. Her father had a large farm and he kept the family together despite the hardships. Rebecca lived in Canada for 22 years and worked as a Public Administrator for the Canadian Alaskan Highway. Later, she went to business college to study Accounting and upon graduation, got a job working at a bank. She met her husband, Lyman Young, at a military dance when she was 21 years old. …

Meet Carlton Senior Living spotlight resident, Dr. Bob Powell, DVM – Robert “Bob” Powell was born August 14, 1939 in Grass Valley, California, to Delbert and Alma Powell. He had two older brothers, Bill and Bud. Bob says that he remembers them all being close. He recalls “screwing around in their yard,” where they had their own baseball diamond. When he was a child Bob loved animals; he had dogs, pigeons, and cats. One of his favorite animals was Boots, the Border Collie, who was born one year before him. She learned sign language at an early age because both of her parents were deaf-mute. Kay attended the University of Canada and taught high school after graduating. She wanted to advance her career in teaching and got a scholarship to UC Berkeley where she met her husband, Elton. They fell in love and got married.
