Meet Carlton Senior Living spotlight resident, Willah Haberman – Willah was born on April 14th in San Francisco, California. She lived in Oakland for a time but grew up in Berkeley along with her four younger brothers. In her early childhood days, Willah remembers playing with the neighborhood kids in empty lots and she can’t forget the tethered goat with big horns from her youth. She also liked to read a lot and listen to the radio.
Willah attended Berkeley High School where she developed a passion for art and dance. During her senior year of high school, World War II broke out. After high school, she was accepted into a commercial art school. After graduating, she began her career as an Art Director designing ads for newspapers and magazines as well as professional photographers. She still has a notebook containing some of her beautiful artwork from throughout her career.
Soon after Willah was born in 1928, her family was featured in the local newspaper article with a photo showing five generations of the women from her family including her grandmother, great-grandmother and her great-great-grandmother. What an article that must have been! Married twice, her second marriage spanned 53 years. Willah has three sons and two lovely granddaughters.
At Carlton Senior Living Downtown Pleasant Hill she enjoys visiting friends and making new ones. She also likes the challenges of the Dakim BrainFitness program in which helps to keep her mind sharp. Along with the many activities she participates in at Carlton Downtown Pleasant Hill a book club is also being started at her request. April 14th marks her 91st birthday!
