Resident Spotlight – Jan Cheryl Tanaka

Carlton Senior Living Spotlight Resident, Jan Cheryl TanakaMeet Carlton Senior Living spotlight resident, Jan Cheryl Tanaka. Jan was born in Silver City, New Mexico on March 22, 1944. Due to her father being in the United States Air Force, she moved around the world as she was growing up. Jan lived in Casablanca, Africa, the Philippines and France. As a child, she was fluent in French and Arabic. Jan had two main careers in life. The first was working at Bank of America for 10 years. She then transitioned to work for the State of California as an Executive Assistant for 17 years until her retirement. Out of all the traveling destinations, her favorite is to drive to see her sister where she would spend the week.

Jan was married twice; first to her high school sweetheart in 1963. They were married for 15 years and had three children: Wendy, Melody and Conley, who lives in Florida. Her second husband, Eric Tanaka, and she were married on her birthday in 1980. Eric is affectionately known as E.T. in her family. E.T. used to work for Citizens Utility which is now called Frontier. Along with her children, Jan has six grandchildren named TracyAnn, Lindsey, Jody, CJ (Conley James), Savana, and Ethan. Finally, three great-grandchildren named Kenade, Nick, Analia.

Her hobbies include knitting and collecting statue angels. She has always had dogs and now she has one cute puppy name Foxy who she has had for 10 years. The three ways to best describe her are blessed, a good mom, and an animal lover. Her advice to new residents is to be friendly, move out of your comfort zone, and be yourself. Her favorite thing about living here at Carlton Senior Living Elk Grove is the different variety of meals and that she does not have to cook anymore.
