Meet Carlton Senior Living spotlight resident, Jim MacDonald – Jim was born in Richmond, California on December 1, 1951, to Donald and Joann and is the oldest of five boys. Jim had a great childhood and enjoyed every family activity they had. Since they didn’t have much when he was younger the only thing that was cheap and fun for the family to do was camping. So, camping was one of his favorite activities besides skiing and music.
Jim graduated from Contra Costa College with a degree in music. He went to Europe with his friend, Dave, for four months to sightsee and to learn the culture. After his Europe trip, he moved to Los Angeles to pursue acting. He auditioned for plays, from musicals to Shakespeare. He landed a part in a play called “Wait Until Dark.” He thought it was hard, but he had a lot of fun doing it.
He eventually moved back to Richmond, California to manage his own restaurant called the Victorian Oak House in Scotts Valley. He owned it for about 9 years and also met his wife, Denise, at the restaurant. Denise is the love of his life. He even wrote a song to sing to her at their wedding. Jim played music every weekend and had bands play for certain events like birthdays at the restaurant.
Since moving to the Carlton Senior Living Sacramento – Enhanced, he’s been really happy. He says the food is good and he appreciates the staffs that have been helping him out. He loves all of the entertainment and looks forward to every happy hour.
