Meet Carlton Senior Living spotlight resident, Martha “Chickie” Falcone – Chickie was born in a little town in Imperial County called Brawley, California. She got her nickname when she was born; her mother told her that she was covered in a light fuzz like a baby chick.
Chickie worked for IBM in a clerical position, and as a bookkeeper for the plumbing company her father-in-law started. Her husband, Dave, later took over the company. Dave and Chickie were married for 55 years and had one child together, Jim as well as two other children from Chickie’s previous marriage, Dave and Corinne. Chickie also has eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Dave and Chickie loved to have fun – Dave was a drummer in a band and he and Chickie loved to go swing dancing.
The Falcones were fortunate enough to travel the world including Mexico, Argentina, Jerusalem, Tangier in Morroco, Hong Kong, Japan, Macau and Shanghai in China, and a total of 27 trips to Europe. Chickie is especially fond of Paris and Italy and says that all that traveling allowed her to indulge in her love for science, history, art, and food.
She is also interested in fitness, ceramics, watching soccer on TV, and music standards such as those performed by Frank Sinatra (Chickie played the trumpet when she was younger). In addition, Chickie enjoys reading tabloid magazines and watching spooky movies. Chickie enjoys being around other people and would love to share travel stories with others. We are pleased to welcome Chickie as a resident of Carlton Senior Living San Jose.
