Resident Spotlight – Samella “Sam” Neisler

sam-neislerMeet Carlton Senior Living’s spotlight resident Samella Neisler – Samella or “Sam” as most around Carlton Senior Living Downtown Pleasant Hill call her, was born in Memphis, Tennessee and her father earned a living as a farmer. The best times she had were in White Haven,TN. Sam enjoyed school. She was a good student as she even won a spelling bee in her local small town! Sam took Home Economics in High School, enjoyed cooking and was a majorette in the school drum and bugle corps. Sam studied college at Henderson Business College.

She worked at the CA Dept of Employment as a clerk typist. In 1965 she moved to LA and took a position at the Neuropsychiatric Institute at UCLA as a typist and accounts payable clerk.

In July 1969, Sam met Maurice; She says that she knew right away that they had found their match. They loved to spend time with each other listening to his extensive record collection or watching sports. After marriage Sam left work and became an avid Bridge player. Sam and her husband played Bridge in their leisure time. They also traveled all over the US.

Sam has two children, four grandchildren and five great grandchildren including Sierra and Savannah the joy of her life.

Sam land her husband moved to Northern CA in 1992 and to Carlton Senior Living Downtown Pleasant Hill in 1997. Sam, who is one of the founding members of the Carlton Family loves to be here. She is still an avid Bridge player, reader, and has many friends here at Carlton Senior Living.
