Remaining socially engaged is important for all people no matter what age. That’s one reason Carlton Senior Living offers such a wide range of social activities through our Personal Expressions program which are tailored to the interests of each individual and each community. At Carlton Senior Living one of the favorite and best attended activities are the weekly Happy Hours. Now, when you think “Happy Hour” the first thing that comes to mind is likely the traditional “cocktail” hour hosted by bars and restaurants which focus on drinks. Although a variety of beverages and appetizers are offered at Carlton’s Happy Hours, these weekly gatherings are much more than that – they provide residents with an opportunity to get dressed up and gather together with friends and family in a fun, social environment while enjoying live entertainment.
Happy Hours also give the communities an opportunity to get creative by incorporating fun themes like this recent “Under the Sea” Happy Hour hosted by Carlton Senior Living Pleasant Hill. Personal Expressions Assistants, Cookie and Patrick, went all out with their underwater motif which included an overhead display of migrating sea turtles and sting rays, a colorful octopus and schools of brightly colored fish swimming through a forest of sea weed.
In keeping with the theme, Chef Jon prepared calamari and coconut shrimp as well as a variety of other delicious appetizers. Pianist, Rhonda Kenney, played a selection of sea themed songs including, “Under the Sea” from The Little Mermaid and “Octopus’s Garden” by The Beatles. As a tongue-in-cheek addition to the playlist, Rhonda also included the well-known ballad, “My Heart Will Go On” from the movie Titanic.
Carlton Pleasant Hill residents loved the theme and raved about it days later. They also applauded the associates for all of their efforts in making it such a fun and memorable Happy Hour and look forward to seeing what the Pleasant Hill team has in store for them next!
