Meet Carlton Senior Living spotlight resident, Keith Conning – Keith was born on March 16, 1941 in San Francisco to Daniel Ralph Conning and Veda Young. He has one brother, Ralph Stanley Conning, who is five years older. In addition to San Francisco, Keith has lived in Berkeley, Bainbridge, Maryland, Colorado, San Ramon, and then finally here at Carlton Senior Living Davis. Keith has visited many countries in both Europe and South America. He spent six years in the United States Air Force as a Cadet and Airman 3rd Class. Keith and his late wife, Marian Barr Conning, had three children together. He is a grandpa to five wonderful grandchildren. …

Meet Carlton Senior Living’s spotlight residents, Bob and Gayle Doebert – Robert “Bob” Doebert was born March 5, 1934, to parents Dorothy and Frank, in East St. Louis, Illinois, a continuation of the major city in Missouri, across the Mississippi River. Gayle was born December 12, 1938, to parents Eleanore and Nicholas, in San Francisco. Bob and Gayle both attended San Francisco State University, where they met. The couple married after college and the two remained in San Francisco for several years afterward. Each worked part-time during college at Candlestick Park. Meet Carlton Senior Living spotlight resident Dorothy Scherer – Dorothy was born to parents Arthur and Clara Kruppenbacher on July 18, 1930, in Palisades Park, New Jersey, across the Hudson River from Manhattan. Her father was a first generation American and her mother came to America from Germany in her twenties to help the family in New York raise their children. In high school, Dorothy walked about three miles to and from school and worked for a drug store in the evenings. Meet Carlton Senior Living spotlight resident, Celeste Van Fleet – Celeste was born November 18, 1923, to parents Albert and Celeste Clark, in Baltimore, Maryland. She had two siblings, Dorothy Ann, and Jim. Jim passed away at an early age after an aircraft accident while he was in the US Air Force. Celeste attended public school at Roland Park and was an Arts and Crafts major at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in the heart of Baltimore. She met and married Robert Samuel Van Fleet, an officer candidate at the US Army’s Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. He was a journalist, and the two moved to Middletown, New York, his hometow …

Yolo Wine Dinner

The Davis Senior Center hosted a Yolo Wine Dinner during the week of love and our Carlton Senior Living Davis community was honored to be chosen to cater the event. Chef MJ and Lead Cook Ben joined together to present a three course plated dinner that was accompanied by a wonderful selection of both red and white wines from Yolo County.                 The wines were all selected from the following Yolo County wineries; Black’s Station, Scribner Bend, Bogle, Matchbook, Capay Valley and Dancing Coyote. Meet Carlton Senior Living spotlight resident, Nancy Shvemar – Nancy was born March 17, 1938, in San Bernardino, California, to parents Gail and Dorothy Wilmuth. Her father was a captain of the police department’s animal control unit and her mother was a secretary at Nancy’s elementary school. Nancy had one sister, Judy. Nancy earned her teaching degree from the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho, on the far western edge of the state. Nancy’s first teaching job was in Laguna Beach, where she taught Spanish and typing to a group of 33 first graders. Meet Carlton Senior Living’s spotlight resident, Elaine Anderson – Elaine was born February 6, 1946, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, to parents Carl and Marion. She has one older sister, Diane, who also lives in Davis. Her father was secretary and a founding member of Memorex, maker of computer tapes, disk drives, and other computer components. Her mother was a housewife. She also painted watercolors, oil, and acrylics, displaying her art in many fairs and often winning blue ribbons.
