Resident Spotlight - Jan Cheryl Tanaka

Meet Carlton Senior Living spotlight resident, Jan Cheryl Tanaka. Jan was born in Silver City, New Mexico on March 22, 1944. Due to her father being in the United States Air Force, she moved around the world as she was growing up. Jan lived in Casablanca, Africa, the Philippines and France. As a child, she was fluent in French and Arabic. Jan had two main careers in life. The first was working at Bank of America for 10 years. She then transitioned to work for the State of California as an Executive Assistant for 17 years until her retirement. Meet Carlton Senior Living’s spotlight resident of the week, William Borland or Willy as we call him at Carlton Senior Living Elk Grove. Willy’s Italian ancestral roots start from his grandparents on his father’s side. They went through Ellis Island in 1898 in order to go to California to purchase 5 acres of land to grow grapes and cherries in the Fruitridge Area. Thus, Willy was born and raised in Sacramento, California on August 23, 1923. Though his family no longer owns the farm, the city named a street after his grandfather, Albert Caselli. The street is called Caselli Circle. Willy’s family tree consists of four children, five grandchild …

Walking Together to End Alzheimer's

This year Carlton Senior Living communities collectively participated in three different walks hosted by the Alzheimer’s Association. Recruiting a total of nearly 140 participants we took a walk in Sacramento on September 29th, Silicon Valley on October 13th and Walnut Creek on October 20th. Resident Spotlight - Mickey & Floyd McLean

Meet Carlton Senior Living spotlight residents, Mickey and Floyd McLean –  Mickey and Floyd first met at a birthday party in Fresno, California. For their first date they went to the movies and saw “Honeymoon” staring Shirley Temple and Guy Madison. Floyd and Mickey married July 18, 1950 and have been married for over 60 years. Mickey worked for city schools as a library technician while Floyd worked for the state. They have three sons named Jim, John, and Mark. Meet Carlton Senior Living’s spotlight resident, Norma Mangels – Norma was born in Oakland, California in 1931 to the Hoeger family. In 1935, her family moved from the Bay Area to Sacramento in search of work. Norma was raised with her two sisters and a brother. As a child, she learned to play the violin but certainly wasn’t good enough to play at Carnegie Hall. When she was a girl, she also liked to play baseball. Norma prides herself on being a hard worker and really liked working throughout her life.
