In 1973, he moved to the west coast when he purchased an antique shop in California. From there, he spent his career working in the hotel and restaurant business. Richard is well-traveled and has visited 70 countries. Of the many places he has visited, Richard names Ireland as his favorite because the people were so friendly and were especially helpful with directions. Meet Carlton Senior Living spotlight resident, Jo Beck – Jo was born on May 7, 1935 in Helena, Montana. Before moving to Carlton Senior Living Concord she was living in her own home for fifty-three years. On June 12, 1955 she married her husband Jack William and had four children three sons and a daughter. She was part of different organizations such as Beta Sigma Phi, Phone Company Club, Baptist Senior Club from September to May. Her favorite scent is Christmas and bacon cooking over a campfire. Her favorite food is bacon, avocado, and tomato sandwich since she no longer can eat lettuce. She enjoys all seasons with different climate changes. …

Meet Carlton Senior Living’s spotlight resident, Susan Pollak  – Susan was born on December 30, 1925 in Vienna, Austria to parents Paul and Senta. Growing up she loved walks in the Austrian landscape and enjoyed learning about the history of the area. A historical event she remembers is when Austria was being taken over by Germany in 1938. She was only a child and could sense all the negativity and people just dreading each day. Susan’s first job was in England as a secretary. Meet Carlton Senior Living spotlight resident, Doris Varner – Doris was born in 1926 in Dallas, Texas to Gladys Wiedebusch and Milton Reynolds. She was married to Samuel Varner for 44 years until his passing in 1988. The couple had 5 daughters together named Beth, Mona, Susan, Ann and Kay. Doris describes herself as a person who loves to volunteer and help others, a loving mother, and also a person who enjoys animals. Her favorite volunteer experience was working with children in the hospital, a role she filled for 22 years. Meet Carlton Senior Living’s spotlight resident, Ted Fuller – Ted was born in Topeka, Kansas and was raised in Denver, Colorado where he attended Western State College of Gunnison, Colorado. He was the editor of Electrical World, a McGraw-Hill magazine, and handled editing and writing assignments for utilities in Denver and Decatur, Illinois, then later San Francisco. He relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1963 where he settled with his wife in the Pleasant Hill/Lafayette area. Live 2B Healthy Exercise Group - Concord

Live 2B Healthy is an exercise class offered at Carlton communities which residents can’t seem to get enough of. Carlton Senior Living Concord residents enjoy the class very much and say that it makes them feel “back in shape” after each session. Class is held twice a week and attendance has been growing steadily.

Resident Spotlight - Garold Sharp

Garold was born in December 1926 in the small town of Fredonia, Kansas, the towns population today barely reaches 2500. He met his beautiful wife Nancy in Elementary school while he was in the fifth grade and she in sixth. He and Nancy married just one month before his 21st birthday and bought their first house together. Nancy was a school teacher and Garold had jobs with the local rock quarry and in Wichita he learned craftsman trades. Settling in California a few years later Nancy continued to teach and Garold was working with the Albertsons Chain, together with their four beautiful children they continued to flourish.
