Meet Carlton Senior Living’s spotlight resident, Carol Banks — Carol was born on May 7, 1930 in Fresno, California to Charles and Ruth Sortor. Carol and her brother were raised on various farms through the Central Valley and they learned to love nature, like their parents. The Sortors loved to camp in Yosemite National Park and the entire family made it a point to stay active and productive. Carol’s mother was a homemaker and was very diligent about keeping her children busy when they were not in school. Meet Carlton Senor Living’s spotlight residents, Dale and Abby Faust ­- Dale was born in 1935 in Culver City, California where he was raised along with his younger brother. His parents were employed by Douglas Aircraft Company; his father worked as an aircraft engineer while his mother worked part-time in the tool crib. After graduating high school in 1953, Dale attended college at the New Mexico School of Mines for two years before joining the U.S. Navy. Her father worked for a company that made leather belts for big machinery and her mother was a happy housewife. Gerdi had one brother who was 15 months her junior and the family lived in a big apartment with many other kids. Gerdi graduated from high school at the age of 16 at which point she had to choose whether to be drafted into the military or work in a factory. Meet Carlton Senior Living’s spotlight resident, John Searles — John was born in 1928 in Canandaigua, New York. His mother was a school board member, library president and housewife while his father was a doctor. John had three brothers and two sisters, but when John was not yet born, one of his brothers died from the flu epidemic in 1918 when he was only 18 months old. After losing his young son, John’s father felt that being a doctor wasn’t right for him and so he became a banker. Meet Mickey Risken, World War II veteran and Carlton Senior Living’s spotlight resident — Maurice “Mickey” Risken was born December 16, 1925 in Potrerillos, Chile. His parents met and married in 1924 in Montana where his father worked for Anaconda Copper Mining Company. The couple soon moved to Chile to help build a new refinery and quickly started their family. Mickey and his younger sister, Gail, grew up learning both English and Spanish.
