Meet Carlton Senior Living’s spotlight resident, Richard Schwab – Richard was born to parents Phillip Edgar Schwab and mother Ruth Narum on September 12, 1927, in Little Falls, Minnesota, the same town where the historic aviator Charles Lindbergh was raised. Richard’s father worked hatching chickens, and his mother was a schoolteacher and office worker. Richard had three brothers, and describes his brother Phillip as his closest friend and comrade. Meet Carlton Senor Living’s spotlight residents, Dale and Abby Faust ­- Dale was born in 1935 in Culver City, California where he was raised along with his younger brother. His parents were employed by Douglas Aircraft Company; his father worked as an aircraft engineer while his mother worked part-time in the tool crib. After graduating high school in 1953, Dale attended college at the New Mexico School of Mines for two years before joining the U.S. Navy. His father had the potential to become a pro-golfer but reasoned that there was no money in it and so he went to work for the government instead displaying his large collection of golf trophies as his consolation. Meet Carlton Senior Living’s spotlight resident, Nina Powell – Nina was born Nina Lee Kingsley on September 24th, 1930 in Pontiac, Michigan near the city of Detroit. When Nina was about 10 years old, her family moved across the country and settled in San Francisco, California. On January 1st, 1948, at the age of 17, Nina married Jim Powell and the couple happily started their lives together. Eventually, the couple would welcome three children into the family. It’s hard to believe, but she celebrated her 92nd birthday in November. Ginny’s given name is Virginia and she was born and raised in North Carolina on a country farm with pigs, chickens and tobacco fields. She comes from a large family with four brothers and one sister. Her father worked for a company that made leather belts for big machinery and her mother was a happy housewife. Gerdi had one brother who was 15 months her junior and the family lived in a big apartment with many other kids. Gerdi graduated from high school at the age of 16 at which point she had to choose whether to be drafted into the military or work in a factory. Born in San Francisco in 1937, Lou playfully refers to California as “The Wild West.” It’s hard to imagine that San Francisco was once the home to cowboys, but Lou fondly recalls growing among the horses, cattle and chickens in the once rural city. His mother was a school board member, library president and housewife while his father was a doctor. John had three brothers and two sisters, but when John was not yet born, one of his brothers died from the flu epidemic in 1918 when he was only 18 months old.
