Olivia Sterba, Carlton Senior Living Orangevale | 2023 Spring Outstanding Department Director

The California Assisted Living Association (CALA) recognized Olivia Sterba, executive assistant at Carlton Senior Living Orangevale, as the recipient of the Outstanding Department Director Award during an Awards Celebration Luncheon held on June 7 at Elevate: CALA’s Spring Conference & Trade Show in Sacramento.

Her vibrant spirit and can-do attitude make her an invaluable asset at Carlton Senior Living Orangevale.

She has become the calm during the storm for her fellow managers and the entire community. Despite challenges faced in the past year, Sterba remained steadfast and focused on the positive, ensuring the onboarding, training and integration of new associates, enabling them to feel at home in their roles. Her outstanding performance recently led to a promotion as an employee engagement specialist at the corporate office.

Sally Michael, president and CEO of CALA, expressed her admiration for Sterba, stating, “Olivia’s joy, enthusiasm and commitment to ensuring residents and associates feel valued and appreciated is truly exceptional. Her dedication is an inspiration to us all.”

Sterba has also played a crucial role in the creation of the Veteran’s Wall of Honor, ensuring that each resident who served in the military receives the recognition they deserve. Through her efforts, every veteran’s photograph, branch of service and rank are displayed proudly, paying tribute to their service and sacrifice.

Recognizing the importance of acknowledging and celebrating others, Olivia consistently goes above and beyond.

She ensures that each staff member receives a heartfelt birthday card signed by fellow staff members and residents. Additionally, Sterba spearheaded a heartwarming project during the holiday season, decorating two large Christmas trees — one in Memory Care and one in Assisted Living — with handmade ornaments, each bearing the name of every resident and staff member. This thoughtful gesture fostered a sense of pride and unity within the community.
