Resident Spotlight- Dorothy Stewart

Meet Carlton Senior Living resident spotlight- Dorothy Stewart. Dorothy was born in Corning, CA to John & Jessie Fox in 1932 and has three siblings, Earl, Edyth and Albert. Her family had olive ranches. Dorothy’s father worked for Standard Oil supplying gas to farmers. She used to help her father by checking the levels in the gas tank of the rig. She would climb up the truck’s ladder and then look into the tank and let her father know how much gas was left inside. A second generation American, Sylvia’s parents both immigrated from Prosecco in Northern Italy, the region from which the sparkling wine, AKA “Italian Champagne” is created!  She was born in Akron, Ohio on February 16, 1930 the youngest of four daughters to parents Gelindo and Margaret Ortolano. At the time of Gelindo and Margaret’s immigration economic and political hardships in Italy were motivating factors bringing people to America. Resident Spotlight- Dorothy Benson

Meet Carlton Senior Living’s resident spotlight, Dorothy Benson- Dorothy was born in Philadelphia on April 24, 1927, to Peter and Mary Rusyn. Dorothy is an only child, but both her parents came from large families; her mother and father each had seven siblings. When he was young, her father received a scholarship to become a Greek Orthodox Catholic priest. This allowed him to go to school and get an education. Dorothy took after her father, as she also loves school and learning new things. Dorothy and her father discussed books and music. Meet Carlton Senior Living Spotlight resident, Will Shotwell! Will was born in Bloomington, Indiana. As he grew up he was always on the move. His dad was a trouble shooting manager for the Jewel Tea Company and was constantly being transferred. Altogether, Will ended up going to thirteen different schools all over the Midwest States before he even entered into High School! His dad was also a teacher, so Will was taught how to read at the young age of three.
